How storage is calculated

Storage is one of the two things your plan is priced on, so it's worth being precise about what it means. Every GB figure here reflects compressed, on-disk footprint — the Grid compresses logs and metrics by roughly 8–12× before they're stored, so each plan holds significantly more raw signal than the number implies. At typical compression, 50 GB of storage supports roughly half a terabyte of raw ingest.

Ingest and events-per-second figures are estimates — typical capacity based on ~10× compression and calibrated against live workloads over time, not a guaranteed limit. Longer retention trades against sustained throughput: Pro's 90-day window is what sets its ceiling, and shortening retention (or adding storage) buys back headroom.

Pricing questions

What counts as a managed device?

A device you've switched monitoring on for — one row in your inventory. Port density doesn't change the math: a 48-port switch counts as a single device, the same as one sensor. Heavy port counts show up as storage, never as a bigger device bill.

Are monitored services and notifications really unlimited?

On every tier, with no asterisk. Run as many service checks as you like, and fire unlimited alerts to email, Slack, webhooks, and PagerDuty. We never meter, cap, or bill either one — throttling the alerts you rely on would mean working against you.

What does my plan govern?

Two dimensions: how many devices you manage, and how much data you keep (storage plus retention). Everything else — every service check, every notification, and the full feature set — is unlimited or included, on all four plans.

What do the storage numbers really buy me?

More than the figure implies. Every GB is compressed, on-disk footprint — GridNMS squeezes logs and metrics down roughly 8–12× before storing them, so a plan absorbs far more raw data than it sounds like. In practice a normal fleet uses a small slice of its budget; a Starter network sits near 7%, Standard near 15%, Pro near 45%. The caps exist for genuinely high-volume workloads, not everyday monitoring.

Is there a free trial or a free version?

Both. Every Cloud plan opens with a 14-day trial of Pro features, so you can run the full product before you pay for it. And Self-Hosted Community is free forever — 10 devices, core monitoring, and one site on your own hardware, no trial clock attached.

What's the difference between hot storage and cold archive?

Hot storage is your live, fully searchable window — 7 days on Starter, 30 on Standard, 90 on Pro. Cold archive parks older data cheaply for compliance and the occasional look-back — 6 months on Standard, 12 on Pro — and it stays queryable in place when you need it, with no restore step.

What if I outgrow my plan's devices, storage, or retention?

You're never boxed in. Extend hot storage or cold retention as an add-on, grow Standard 25 devices at a time, or step up a tier when it makes sense. See add-on pricing above, or request a quote for something larger.

What's a site?

One independent monitored location or network, with its own collector coverage and role-based access. Starter and Standard include one site, Pro includes up to three, and Enterprise is whatever you need.

Can I self-host now and move to Cloud later?

Any time, in either direction. It's the same platform with the same features whichever way you run it, and your whole configuration exports and imports cleanly between deployments — so nothing traps you on one side. Bringing your historical logs and metrics along is a separate data migration, which may carry additional cost.
